It started as a prank by a Facebook user: having a party on a beach near Amsterdam looking at the horizon, snacking on Dutch potatoes and drinking French wine or German beer. It's more than that: they are going to start selling tickets online for anyone who wants to go to the event in Wijk aan Zee, a coastal town in the Netherlands. In the Facebook event, nearly 7,000 people said they would go, and more than 50,000 showed interest. Now the organizers are canvassing how many tickets to put on sale. The party, of course, will be on October 31, the deadline for Brexit to occur, with or without agreement from the British Parliament. Discover more stories on Business Insider Spain. A Dutch user opened a Facebook event days ago to celebrate a party on the beach in Wijk aan Zee, near Amsterdam.
The bottom line is that this beach is 200 kilometers – in a straight line – from Great Britain. The objective is to eat and drink while sitting looking at the horizon, and see what happens when the United Kingdom has its Brexit. It sounded like a joke. More than 7,000 people said they would attend the party and more than 56,000 showed interest in doing the same. However, the event's promoter has launched Middle East Phone Number List a website – ByeByeBritain – on which he is asking people to confirm whether he will actually be attending to see how many tickets he will put up for sale. "We have to do this process because the number of tickets could be limited by local restrictions. So before we start selling, we need to know how many people plan to come and enjoy the BreixtAanZee with us.
BrexitAanZee is the name that the event has taken - it mixes the word Brexit with the name of the coastal town. For now, the website only has a form in which you have to register your email to receive more information. At the moment nothing else has been specified: neither how much the tickets will cost, nor how many will go on sale. But what is certain is that on October 31, the day on which the deadline to begin Brexit expires, thousands of Dutch people will be watching from the coast to see if the United Kingdom separates from the Union... beyond what metaphorical. When the event was created, weeks ago, the organizers suggested — quite humorously — that during the party a band could perform Johnny Cash songs like We'll meet again (We'll meet again, in English). |
