As a first action, 21.5 hectares of important land will be restored to improve the quality and quantity of water in the region.

Key activities include planting native vegetation to increase groundwater levels and reduce soil loss, improve infrastructure and increase awareness of the importance of water to local communities. This intervention area is a strategic site since it is located at a Guatemala Mobile Number List drainage point of the “Arroyo Grande de San Lucas” micro-basin. This basin has a hydrological catchment area of 1,616 hectares. The project was carried out precisely there because it is the connection between two large ecosystems: a mountain landscape (Cerro Viejo) and a wetland (Laguna de Cajititlán), in this way Cerro Viejo provides one of the main flows of continuous water that keeps life alive. to the Cajititlán Lagoon and this project contributes to sustaining this vitality and ecosystem connection.
