An investment of R$ 47,268 ,337.00 in the acquisition of 5,918,966 books, serving 136,389 schools and 16,990,819 students. The PNBE 2006 was aimed at public schools from 5th to 8th grade (6th to 9th year), with an investment of R$45,509,183.56. The program distributed 7,233,075 books, serving 46,700 schools and 13,504,906 students. In 2007, the Literacy and Writing Center (CEALE) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) took over the organization of the team of specialists responsible for evaluating and selecting the material that will make up the PNBE. The following year, the Program was expanded, starting to serve not only elementary schools, but also pre-school and high school schools. The investments of this PNBE for early childhood education were R$ 9,044,930.

In the acquisition and distribution of 1,948,140 books, serving 85,179 schools and 5,065,686 students. In elementary education, 3,216,600 books were purchased, benefiting 127,661 schools and 16,430,000 students with an investment of R$17,336,024.48. The PNBE 2010 was aimed at early childhood education, the initial years of elementary school and EJA. According to the FNDE, 24 million students benefited from the program, which distributed 10.7 million books, with an investment of R$51,817,743.25 million. The PNBE 2011 benefited primary and secondary education, with 77,754 collections distributed to primary education (6th to 9th year) and 34,704 collections distributed to secondary education, highlighting that three different collections are made up for each of these stages, with a investment of R$70,812,088.00 million. The PNBE 2012 was aimed at the acquisition and distribution of literary works in public schools in the early years of primary education, youth and adult education and early childhood education (daycare centers and preschools).
