Since its creation in 2006, Twitter has integrated many new functions, but it has been based on one type of publication: the tweet. Starting today, 280-character posts will join ephemeral posts . Meet Fleets, the new Twitter stories.
Fleets are the new fleeting tweets of the little blue bird's social network, and they are basically Email Data publications that appear on a separate timeline, above the main feed and whose duration will only be 24 hours, and after that they will disappear. Does the format sound familiar to you?
As you can see in this post by Kayvon Beykpour, product leader at Twitter, Fleets are extremely similar to the stories that we can find on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp statuses and practically any social network. However, he assures that they have differences that offer the opportunity to live an experience more focused on sharing.

How Fleets works
Users who have Fleets available can see a new rounded profile icon at the top of their Twitter feed , as you can see in the images. If your contacts have published Fleets, they will appear in their own bubble icons. Yes, exactly the same as the stories on Instagram.
However, the biggest difference in Fleets is that it will give users a way to share content that is not openly public According to Kayvon Beykpour “Users often tell us that they don't feel comfortable tweeting because anyone can see and respond to their tweets, since they feel permanent (How many likes and retweets will you get?) and many of us can probably empathize with this situation.”
With Fleets Twitter aims to integrate a space in which the content is ephemeral, in addition to not being able to be retweeted, it cannot be responded to in public : reactions to Fleets will reach its creator through direct messages. |
